Every cat looks to the heavens for support and guidance, trusting the warriors ancestors, StarClan. They’re worshiped, feared even, and holds the faith of nearly every cat. However, after HorizonClan pads out of a particularly difficult leaf-bare, another strikes unnaturally quickly and hard, before green-leaf even has a chance to settle in. While leaf-bare is necessary for the forest to grow back and replenish itself, having one after another is deadly to them and in their confusion, they turn to StarClan. However the starry cats keep silent in the crisis. The leader and Medicine Cats fervently try to connect with them while the rest of the clan watches nervously, but nothing comes about.

Meanwhile, the small creatures born to each cat, a life-long friend called a Companion, are disappearing. The night sky is looking darker and darker every night, as if the stars are winking out, and as winter hits once again, an illness worse than greencough infects the camp. It’s dark times, and almost has an other-wordly touch to it, but it’s a theory unproven. StarClan is silent, the forest is fading and HorizonClan is dying…
